Since we were sick at the beginning of Winter Break, we bumped our Seattle trip out a couple weeks. Instead we ended up going for New Years.
The first day was only as far as Tigard where we met up with Josh and Hannah for dinner. The next day we visited Powell's which is always chaotic and stressful because trying to keep tabs on three hyper kids while shopping and negotiating crowds is never fun. But we got a lot of fun books off of everyone's wish lists.
After Powell's we drove to Mariska and Kelly's place to see their new baby and to have dinner. After dinner we drove to Seattle. It was cold in Portland, but dry. Just north of the Columbia River we entered a blizzard which we stayed in all the way to Olympia. It's never fun driving 45mph on the interstate because you can barely see. But it all worked out and we got to Seattle safely right before midnight. We watched fireworks on the TV.
On the first day of 2017 we went to visit with the grandfolks and the Matney's. After dinner at the Matney's was over we went back to the hotel and got ready for the long drive all the way back to Rogue River.
On the day of the drive the weather was perfect in Seattle (cold and clear), but conditions were pretty bad back in southern Oregon. We had to get to the Museum of Flight though and we were so glad that we did: all the kids absolutely loved it! Zephyr and Zoë gobbled the place up as they literally ran from plane to plane. Emma wanted to savor it all and see everything. It was tough keeping track of them all, but they all had soooo much fun. I definitely want to go back with just Emma though so that she can spend a bunch of time there.
The drive home wasn't terrible: there was a blizzard around Salem and the roads were snowy and icy between Glendale and home. But we just drove slow and got home just fine. Unfortunately, there was so much snow on the driveway that we couldn't park at our house. Had to instead park at the bottom of the driveway and hike up our hill.
