Took one really long day to drive down to Medford for a day of discussion and wandering around a recent timber harvest unit where groundbased machinery was allowed to operate in the wet season which we normally restrict. Turns out that in this particular area, the effects from groundbased harvest were benign and the cut looked good. Still, it was nice to see and chat with everyone.
A drainage dip constructed before the road crosses a stream so that muddy water on the road routes itself into the woods and not into the stream.
Machine-piling of slash material often has the most detrimental effects to soils since the equipment is literally driving everywhere.

This was one of the skid trails that was used in the wet season that would normally have been restricted. In this case, the effects to soil were well within the scope of analysis.

Interesting...glad the effects of the process during rains were not a detriment. Nice to get back to that country and see others in the field.
