Finally found a weekend (December 13th) where everyone was free to go get a Christmas Tree! On a tip, we went to Bilyeu Creek to look for noble fir. It wasn't until moments before I left that I realized that the location we were set to go to was up at almost 4,000ft! Yeah, we didn't make it all the way. Almost, surprisingly, but not all the way. We got turned around by snow because I didn't want to push it. We were a mile short and about 800 vertical feet short of where we needed to get. But no matter, we backtracked and found some really nice Douglas firs.
We cut one down and built a fire to roast marshmallows and enjoy hot cocoa. And the rain held off until just moments before we left. And then it poured! Actually, the tree had to drip-dry in the garage overnight because it was so wet. And then, just like every year, we ended up cutting off about three feet just to make sure it fit in the house. As it stands, the top is still a bit bend under the ceiling and there certainly isn't any room for a star!
And here are a couple photos of the kids right before opening presents on Christmas Eve. It was different not having anyone over this year, but then again, we did get to do everything we wanted at our own pace which was nice.

"Noble Fir" indeed!! Fun family memories! Tree looks perfect, marshmellows toasted to perfection...the quiet before magic hour...really nice!
