Weekend on the Rogue

We all needed a good break from work and school.  So I tied in a few days that aligned with Veteran's Day for us to go down to the Rouge River.  We had made plans earlier this summer to get together with another family from Roseburg and to go agate hunting in the burned-over area of the Obenchain Fire near Eagle Point.

So I got a house reserved on the river away from people.  We all met at the house and had BBQ for dinner.  It was a ton of food.  Not especially amazing, but certainly satisfying.  Dohnele made a fire and we were all able to relax.  The house had a large tree fort and a zip line for the kids which got used extensively.

One whole day was spent hiking around the Obenchain Fire looking for agates; we found a good number, but not as many as we had in past years in other locations.  But taking a look at the effects of the fire were pretty astounding.  Not only were dozens of homes burnt to the ground, but the condition of the vegetation and landscape were pretty intense.

Another day was spent hanging out around the house since Emma wanted to do a full day of class (online).  And that worked out just fine because I wanted to spend some time fishing.  Didn't catch anything, but did see one jump.  But it was nice to just relax in the river.

On the last night we had a big bonfire and roasted hot dogs and s'mores and the rain was kept to a minimum which was great.  Drove home over the Tiller-Trail Highway to save some time.
