Sitka Trip: Day 4

Today was spent with Tyler, Kate, and each of their pups.  Even though the weather was supposed to be rainy, it turned out to be mostly sunny and clear with only one brief rain squall.  We headed over to Camp Coogan Bay where I used to be a kayak guide.  Lots more activity in that bay since I was last in there from houseboats, to anchorages, to commercial firewood gathering.

We went to the head of the bay and hiked across the estuary from there.  Eventually we got into the woods and hiked across a few streams loaded with spawning pink salmon.  Finally tied into and hiked up the old logging road until it started to fizzle out.

Once back to the boat, we headed south to Pirate's Cove so that we could have a campfire and picnic.  Amazingly enough, nobody was there and we had the place to ourselves!  Even though we lit a fire, it was warm enough to just relax in the sun.

And finally, after the tide started coming in, we headed out to Cape Burunof to try and find some sea otters for Emma.  Overall, it was too rough to get really close to any, but on the way home, we got to do some whale watching which was a nice treat!
