Seattle Art Museum

Got a random tip on an old piece of family furniture belonging to Great Grandma Koenekamp which was in Seattle and needed a home.  I was uncertain at first, but ultimately decided that it was a very good looking writing desk in very decent condition considering it was from the 1940s.  So Dohnele and I zipped up to Seattle for an overnight.  As part of the trip, we tied in a visit to the Seattle Art Museum to see a display featuring Katsushika Hokusai, a Japanese block printer whom both Dohnele and I really love.

That evening, after checking into the hotel, we got together with James at June Baby, an acclaimed restaurant slated to close in less than a month.  We were glad to get in before because the food was really tasty.  Then we went to a dive bar near James' apartment for cocktails before he dropped us off at our hotel and we exchanged Christmas gifts.

On the way home, we stopped in Olympia for lunch and a drink at Well 80 Brewing and then did some Christmas shopping downtown.  We found a really perfect store where we got a number of cute and fun gifts for the kids, called Archibald Sisters.  We also stopped off at Johnson's Smokehouse in Olympia which was a neat place to find meats and cheeses and such.  Then we headed south just in time to hit rush-hour traffic heading south out of Portland.
