I had just gotten back from work and was relaxing on the couch when Emma came running up to me while shouting "The Hill Is On Fire!!!" I assumed she was talking about the hill we live on, so I freaked out for a second and ran to the window. Turns out it was the hills on the other side of the valley on the other side of the Rogue River.
But yeah, even though the sun hadn't even set yet, you could clearly see the firelines burning and tankers dropping on it. We watched it all night long and got a few good pictures.
See the tanker flying above?!
This is a 60 second exposure and you can see an engine driving to the scene!
Turned out a rogue bolt of lightning started it and the resulting fire then torched through a clearcut. All of the next few days, helicopters dropped thousands of gallons of water out of the Applegate River on the fire which grew to 99 acres. Pretty small in the bigger scheme of things, but it was still pretty cool to watch.
