File this under reasons to never let trees grow on dams. A tree blew over and its rootwad damaged a drain pipe at Hult Dam. As a result, the pond had to be emergency drained about ten feet. Here are some pictures from an inspection trip I did.

The entrance to the spillway. You can see the pilings which used to support a railway bridge connecting the log pond to a downstream millsite.

Mercy...yes...watch those trees. I have seen huge trees somehow at the top spillway of Blue Lake elude the initial float barriers.
