Test Pits

I've got a restoration project in the works on Mosby Creek.  It'll be pond turtle, salmonid, and stream restoration all in one.  We'll be tackling a floodplain to create a pond which will have stream connectivity to circulate streamflow, improve water quality, and provide habitat for all sorts of critters.  One of my first steps was to ensure that the floodplain was in fact all alluvium (instead of bedrock).  I called in a favor and got a crew and an excavator to donate a day of labor.  Before they arrived on scene, I picked up some PVC and some other equipment to fashion some makeshift wells so that we could monitor water depth throughout the winter to see how much hyporheic flow there was across the floodplain.
