I put together a fun field trip for my soil scientists to visit a timber sale in the Tillamook Field Office. The sale is called Look Out Below because it's situated in the hills above McMinnville. So anyway, we all met in McMinnville and then headed up the hill to the timber sale where we walked a few soil disturbance transects and then looked at a section of the haul route which had been improved to account for a failing fill slope and poor drainage. The solution was to widen the road and move the centerline into the cut slope. The contractors hadn't yet installed culverts or cut in a ditchline, but the contract wasn't closed yet.
You can see how the road has been moved into the hillside
