Day 1: Rogue River to Ontario on backroads

We had to pull Emma out of one day of school in order to do everything that we wanted to.  We left late morning in the pouring down rain.  It was snowing between the Cascade Crest and Silver Lake.  Actually a fair bit of snow on the road in a lot of places.  But by the time we got to Summer Lake, things had dried up and even cleared a bit.  Cold and windy though.  It was so windy at Summer Lake that parts of the dry lake bed were dusting up quite a bit.

The small county roads we had decided to drive were really nice.  Beautiful scenery and wide open spaces.  We saw a number of harriers at Silver Lake and thousands of snow geese in Burns.

The Malheur River was neat to see because it was at flood stages, but by the time we got that far in our drive, the rain had started back up.  We got to Ontario, had dinner, and went to bed.
