Mom in Town: Day 6

Today was spent in the lower (north) valley.  We took the scenic drive up and stopped in Dayton to visit the old blockhouse that distant Newbill relatives likely would have seen and served in when they were stationed with the Army at the Grand Ronde Reservation.  After taking a few pictures, we finished the northbound drive to the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge which is certainly the most visited of all the refuges we visited being that it's so close to Portland.

Some stream restoration evident on Chicken Creek (above)
It was pretty warm out, but we walked a little more than a mile first through oak woodlands and then through forest along the Tualatin River and finished at an overlook of a meadow which might be more of a marsh in the winter.  The walk back was a bit hurried because we knew the Refuge closed at a certain time and we didn't know if that included the gated parking lot where the car was.

For dinner, I cooked up Korean flanken ribs and Zoe made a homemade pop-tart for dessert.
