Timber Sale Soil Monitoring

Spent the day with a new employee who is detailed into the position of one of my soil scientists.  I brought him from his office in Springfield up to the Salem Office to take him out and see what other soil scientists look at.  To do that, I brought in the State Office Soil Scientist and two other of my Field Office Soil Scientists.

We went to a timber sale that had just recently finished harvest to take a look at soil compaction and disturbance.  We also met with the purchaser of the timber sale to discuss process and how soil restrictions affect his ability to operate.  Turns out this particular operator is a real good guy; very conscious of the natural resources he works in and around and usually ends up shutting down the harvest operation before we do.  Very refreshing.
