Oak Basin

I'm part of a team of data stewards responsible for the accurate mapping of the growing conditions and soils across the district.  Anyway, for the past half a dozen years or so, change has been coming as sweeping improvements and data modeling has happened.  As part of the unveiling and transition, I hosted a field trip to Oak Basin which is a unique area on district characterized by thin, unproductive soils which result in oak woodlands - rare in its own right.

The day was comprised of soil scientists, botanists, and silviculturists and we spent the day discussing the different growing conditions and whether or not the mapping was done accurately at these particular sites.
