Mom had a great flight home which was scheduled to take off later in the day, but I didn't want to mess around with Portland traffic and I had another place I wanted to show her: Mount Hood. So I rationalized that if we left early enough, drove up to Mount Hood, then down to Hood River, and then to the airport from the east that we'd bypass traffic! Well we still hit traffic, but at least got to see Mount Hood on a truly perfect day! It was clear, warm, and largely devoid of people. Timberline Lodge was OK and certainly gets you close to the mountain, but White River offers such a nice view and setting and we had that place to ourselves!
