The first leg of our trip to northern Idaho was Salem to Walla Walla. We left on time and had lunch in Portland at a place I've been meaning to get to: Montelupo Focacceria. It was pretty delicious. And an interesting approach: you order one of four base focaccia breads and then from there decorate it in any number of ways. Zephyr, for example, added burrata and prosciutto which are his two favorite things ever to eat.
After Portland, we cruised up The Gorge and I got to see a stretch of the Columbia River that I'd never seen before, east of Umatilla along US Hwy 730. It was beautiful and peaceful.
We got to Walla Walla, bought some groceries, feasted in our hotel room, and then went swimming at the pool.
